For more climate protection - Wipf uses SBTi to reduce emissions in companies
In order to achieve the targets of the Paris Agreement - limiting global warming to 1.5 °C - companies play a major role. The reduction of corporate emissions is an important step on the way to achieving this goal. Wipf AG is also aware of its obligation in this regard and is meeting this challenge with the support of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This alliance of various organisations offers companies comprehensive help on the way to the long-term goal of zero net emissions.
Effective implementation measures for companies
Scientifically based climate targets are intended to help reduce greenhouse emissions and thus effectively protect the climate. Special methods and criteria have been developed and corporate targets validated for implementation in companies.
In this way, individual key figures can be determined, always depending on the respective company size. These form the basis for all further measures to reduce emissions.
Procedure
SBTi Scope 1, 2 and 3 observation perimeters
Source: myclimate foundation
To determine these key figures, special observation perimeters are used for different areas of the company.
Scope 1 includes all direct GHG emissions in the own company
Scope 2 includes the indirect emissions of the energy suppliers.
Scope 3 relates to the so-called "grey" energy or includes the indirect emissions of upstream and downstream company processes such as raw material production, transport, etc. (total 15 categories)
Goals defined for the medium term
The indicators determined in Scope 1-3 form the basis for all targets, which must be achieved in at least 5 and at most 15 years. The base year can be freely selected. All important activities and emissions are included in the target scope, but reductions already achieved are not. Offsets do not count either, but green electricity is taken into account.
Status Quo
In the summer of 2022, Wipf had identified the company-relevant Scope 1 and 2 categories, compiled and reported all annually applicable or resilient emission factors. The SBTi registration for Scope 1 and 2 took place in August 2022 and the registration confirmation came in December 2022. Wipf continues to be active in the implementation phase - and is thus one of now more than 4870 companies worldwide or 118 in Switzerland that are actively committed to achieving the climate targets of the Paris Agreement.
Think and act responsibly
Climate protection concerns everyone. Protecting the environment and the climate is a top priority. As a responsible company, Wipf AG always keeps this existential necessity in mind and uses all available resources to do its part for an environment worth living in. Today and in the future.
